Secretary's Report: Approved as read. Website has 4374 hits on main page, 4607 on links.

Treasurer's Report: We have $789.31. This was not including money from Drifting Goose. NRA dues are paid. Next year, we should look at long-term dues payment to the NRA to save money.

2008 Canoe Journey: no update.(August?)
2008 NRA Youth Sportsfest: no update.(August 9th)
Sweetwater, September 12-14, 2008:We are almost out of mugs. Should we reorder? Decision was made not to reorder mugs. Our camp fees for Sweetwater have remained the same for 20 years, yet the expenses have gone up. We should raise camp fees to $20 or $25 next year (also raise Drifting Goose.) Possible event times could be: 9am, 10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm. We will build new hooters (at least one) before next spring. Joe will write an article on Drifting Goose for the Powder Horn News. Mike will send article with pictures.
Ipswich Trail Days: Also their 125th. Trail Days is June 14-15. Several people have expressed interest in either camping or day-tripping. Sweetwater, September 12-14, 2008:
Building update (John T):
Target stands (Joe/John T):

Old Business:
SD Outdoor Expo, May 17-18, 2008 (Mike): Several members are considering day-tripping Saturday. John T and Zach W hope to set up camps. Zach isn't sure of schedule, but will check and determine if he can do fire-starting demonstrations. The club will contact Randy Gaskins and commit to loading demonstrations (done at camp, no 'live' load fire) and possibly fry-bread to hand out to public. The club needs to know if we can dig firepits, though. The Sunday schedule is also needed, to determine who can set up camp and stay through the event. Mike will contact Randy Gaskins.
Club Public Relations:
College Activities (Zach): Zach has left messages, no replies. Drifting Goose is open to the public, might want to promote that.
Aberdeen Area Arts Council/ARCC (open): Kyle was not in attendance.
Club info listings - GF&P/Abdn Am News (Joe): The News is still not responding.
Club Patches/Flags (John T): No new update. Pete contacted Cindy Bauer. She is unable to make the patches.
"Drifting Goose" Rendezvous: Memorial Day weekend (May 23-26). John T needs to find the scalp cutter as Joe needs it for the camp token. Zach can provide a backup if necessary. Someone needs to contact Nick H. to see if he will be attending and if he can run the 1:30pm shoot on Sunday. Same needs to be done with Ralph and the shotgun shoot at 9:00am Sunday. Members discussed the definition of a "camp" concerning fees. Two options were discussed, being (1) 2 adults and children under 18 is a camp, regardless of relationship and (2) "camp" is a family only, with 2 adults (Husband & Wife) and children under 18. 4-Moons and High Plains do not distinguish between 2 adults or "Husband & Wife". Members voted to define "camp" as 2 adults and children under 18 is a camp, regardless of relationship, with an evaluation done after Drifting Goose to determine if any changes need to be made. Financially, there will be a charge for more than 2 adults in one camp.
IRS Non-Profit Rules (Mike/Pete): We will have to file if we want to retain our non-profit status. Mike believes he has all material needed to file the e-postcard and get this taken care of.
Donation Requests: Joe has talked to Sodak. Mardell provided another possible source for donations, someone who does the military reenactments and makes period-correct clothes. No update from Kyle.

Other Old Business: None.

New Business:
April Shoot: Will be held on the 20th. This is clean-up weekend.
2008 Publicity opportunities: Ipswich Trail Days is also their 125th. Mardell would like to set up and promote, if there were other club members who would also set up. Mike will include in the next newsletter to see if there are others who can participate. Trail Days is June 14-15.
Upcoming Rendezvous'/Events: Ft. Atkinson (Nebraska) event is April 18-20.

Other New Business: None.

Other Business: None.

February 2008

Meeting called to order at 8:09 pm, 2/4/08 by Vice President Joe Carda. 5 members present.

Secretary's Report: The minutes of the last meeting were approved as read. Website has 3400 hits, Links page has surpassed Index in hits.

Tabled Business:
New Rendezvous site (Joe):
Ft. Manuel (Mike):
Cabin Fever Party, Mar 1. (John T): There will be a free drawing throughout the night for random small prizes. The fundraiser drawings will be 1 ticket for $1.00. Giving 3/$1 is just a waste of tickets since everyone pays $1.00. Joe will bring coffee. Mike needs to contact Pete with the number of prizes already collected to determine the number of meat prizes to purchase from Frohling Meats.
2008 Spring canoe journey: Need to review possible dates due to busy May. Joe will bring map next month to review possible routes.
Range clean-up weekend: WILL BE SHOOT WEEKEND IN APRIL (3RD SUNDAY OF THE MONTH)
Building update (John T):

Old Business:
Target stands (Joe/John T): No new update.
SD Outdoor Expo, May 17-18, 2008 (Mike): The organization wants to know what we can/will demonstrate. The camp area is located on the State Fair grounds in Huron, SD. If you set up, they want you to stay THROUGH Sunday's events. Day-tripping is possible, but they need to know what we are willing to demonstrate asap. There is the possibility of shooting, but that will be done at the local trap range outside of town. They will be bussing people back and forth. Joe, John G and Kyle all mentioned possibly day-tripping. Does anyone want to demonstrate? Possibly Zach or Dan O as they are both experienced? Mike will include in next newsletter to see if there are volunteers (hint, hint!) Any volunteer needs to contact Mike asap so he can get information. This is very near the dates for both the canoe trip and Drifting Goose. The club may need to look at rescheduling the canoe trip? Several members would like to carpool and day-trip that Saturday.
Sweetwater 2008: Mugs are here. They look great! Mike tested the "market" in Kearney. The mugs will hold 24oz with room for additional liquid. Pricing will be difficult. After much discussion and deliberation, it was agreed that we will charge $15.00 (the basic model retails for $18.00 in Dave's booth). Several members took mugs home. They will be available in limited quantities at the next meetings, shoots and Fargo Trade Fair.
Club Public Relations:
College Activities (Zach): Zach was not in attendance for an update AGAIN!
Aberdeen Area Arts Council/ARCC (open): Kyle has not had an opportunity to pursue. He will try to get this moving before the next meeting.
Club info listings - GF&P/Abdn Am News (Joe): GF&P can't publicize, or all other groups would want the same. The News is still not responding.
Club Patches/Flags (John T): No new update. Pete asked if John T had contacted Cindy Bauer? She might be able to make the patches.
"Drifting Goose" Rendezvous: Memorial Day weekend (May 23-26). Joe is working on token. He found a possible backup - Buffalo Concho. The club asked him to pursue the backup as it may be used for other events also. John T needs to find the scalp cutter as Joe needs it for the camp token. John G volunteered to run a shoot and archery. John T will do the first rifle shoot Saturday. Kyle will run the smoothbore shoot. Someone needs to see if Ralph is available for the Shotgun shoot as it is early in the morning and he may be in the fields by that time. Kyle would be dog soldier. He volunteered Zach also. Pete isn't sure of his schedule, so someone may need to run the Hawk & Knife.

Other Old Business:
IRS Non-Profit Rules (Mike/Pete): Nothing has changed yet. The local IRS office still doesn't know what we will have to do. Mike gets regular electronic updates, but nothing has been clarified yet.

New Business:
February Shoot: Will be held on the 17th. Aggregates need to be made up before Cabin Fever party. LAST MAKE UP DATE.
2008 Publicity opportunities: Joe will investigate and see if he can learn of any celebrations this summer.
Upcoming Rendezvous'/Events: Updated: ND trade fair - Feb 16-17. Joe would like to carpool.

Other New Business:
NRA Youth Sportsfest: Rieck Eske provided the date for the 2008 event. They have moved back to August due to weather and sporting events. The date will be August 9th. Will we participate? A number of members believed they would be available for the sportsfest, so Mike will contact Rieck and confirm.
New Member: Doug Wanttie has joined the club.
Donation Requests: Joe will work the local scene this year. Kyle will help where he can.

Other Business: None.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:38 pm.

Cabin Fever Party (John T): March 1, 2008. Plan on a silent auction. If you have items, please bring them. John G will bring paper/pencils. Also consider giving 1 free ticket for each drawing, with the option of buying additional chances. Everyone would then have 1 chance without having to pay.
2008 Spring canoe journey: 2nd weekend of May potentially.
Range clean-up weekend:

Old Business:
Building update (John T): John T and Ralph were unable to locate an available tractor this late in the year. The building will have to be moved next spring when the weather makes it possible.
Target stands (Joe/John T): Still need the 25yd and 100yd stands made.
SD Outdoor Expo, May 17-18, 2008 (Mike): No news, but the deadline is fast approaching. Mike will contact for an update.
Sweetwater 2008: Mug samples were done, but no one was able to hook up with Dakota Stoneware to pick them up. We should have the entire order by next meeting. Mike presented an updated flyer. All liked the simplified version. Mike will have copies made for distribution at Kearney and other trade fairs. Mike will also get Sweetwater added to the Powder Horn News.
Club Public Relations:
College Activities (Zach): Zach was not in attendance for an update.
Aberdeen Area Arts Council/ARCC (open): Kyle was not in attendance for an update.
Club info listings - GF&P/Abdn Am News (Joe): No new success, but Joe is still working on both. GF&P is checking against guidelines.
Club Patches/Flags (John T): Nothing new to report. John will get back to this by next meeting.
"Drifting Goose" Rendezvous: Memorial Day weekend (May 23-26). Possibility of using a goose feather as the initial camp token. Joe has a plan. We need to have the rendezvous name and date on the token. After discussion, it was decided to use a leather "scalp" from the club shoot scalps and tie that to the feather. John T will need to locate the scalp punch. Several flyer designs were brought for review. One was chosen with some slight modifications. Mike will get copies made before the Nebraska trade fair in January and will send to Powder Horn News. Several people volunteered for events. We need to determine the remaining volunteers at the next two meetings.

Other Old Business: None.

New Business:
January Shoot: January shoot will be held on the 20th. Aggregates need to be made up before Cabin Fever party.
2008 Publicity opportunities: No new updates.
Upcoming Rendezvous'/Events: Updated: NE trade fair - Jan 18-20.

Other New Business:
Donation Requests: Mike and John have submitted donation requests via e-mail to many businesses outside SD. We need to have someone look for donations in the Aberdeen area for the rendezvous' this year.

Other Business: None.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:25 pm.

December 2007

Secretary's Report: The minutes of the last meeting were approved as read. Website has 2850 hits, Links page has 2683.

Treasurer's Report: We had $1365.80 in our account prior to the meeting. Insurance and Sweetwater mugs are due yet.

Range Officer's Report: No fee shoot in November, just aggregate.

Old Business:
Building update (John T): Building is cleared out and ready to move. The stackmover is available, but Hahler's tractor is down, so is Nilsson's. We need to find a tractor, then try to move the building before Christmas. John T will contact Ralph or seek alternatives for a tractor. Everyone be prepared for recruitment to move the building.
Target stands (Joe/John T): We will need to remove old target posts and install new stands when we move the building in, due to size and 'approach' to get the building positioned where we want it.
SD Outdoor Expo, May 17-18, 2008 (Mike): No new updates.
New Rendezvous site (Joe): On hold until further notice
Ft. Manuel (Mike): Mike sent e-mails to two addresses, but were returned undeliverable. No one has a phone number to contact. Until e-mail works on the Ft. Manuel end, there is no lead to pursue.
Cabin Fever Party (John T): Just a reminder - someone needs to bring coffee. Date is March 1, 2008.
Sweetwater 2008: Mugs could be done this month. When they are, Mike will contact Pete & Joe to see who can pick them up.
Club Public Relations:
College Activities (Zach): Zach contacted NSU History department. They would like to set something up again at the range. He will continue pursuing this.
Aberdeen Area Arts Council/ARCC (open): Kyle has volunteered to contact these groups.
Club info listings - GF&P/Abdn Am News (Joe): No new success, but Joe is still working on both.
Club Patches/Flags (John T): John T talked to Sanders Sew & Vac, but no success. There are responses by several online contacts. Prices are approximately $2-$3.00 per patch for 50-piece orders. DSS may be able to do this (or know another local contact) and Cindy Bauer may also do this work. John T will continue.
2008 Spring canoe journey: Reminder - 2nd weekend of May potentially. John T has a possible contact with experience on the Cheyenne River near Oakes/Lisbon if we want to drive up. Jim River is too flooded - no trees anymore.
Range clean-up weekend: On hold.
"Drifting Goose" Rendezvous: Potential date is Memorial Day weekend, which would allow for two full days of activities (Saturday & Sunday) with setup anytime before Saturday and teardown on Monday. Possibility of using a goose feather as the initial camp token. Joe and Kyle will see how many they can get. Joe brought a flyer design. We will choose a flyer at next meeting. Bring a hard copy so Zach can try to get copies made before the Nebraska trade fair in January. Plan on having 5 rifle shoots, Smoothbore, Shotgun, Pistol, Archery, Skillet Toss, Hawk&Knife, and Trapper's Walk/Seneca Run - approximately 6 events per day, Saturday and Sunday, with blanket events Friday and/or Monday. Meeting called to order at 8:00 pm, 11/5/07 by President John Thelen. 9 members present.

Secretary's Report: The minutes of the last meeting were approved with one correction (the Aberdeen Township Hall is NORTH of the south sale barn.) Website has 2625 hits, Links page has 2390 and is the fastest growing page.

Treasurer's Report: We had $1379.86 in our account prior to the meeting. Due to expenses in postage, it was agreed that we will only send USPS newsletters to non-members before Sweetwater and before Cabin Fever. Paid members will continue to receive USPS newsletters where Electronic is not available. Electronic newsletters will continue to be sent out to any interested parties to encourage new membership.

Range Officer's Report: No shoot in October.

Old Business:
Building update (John T): No new updates.
SD Outdoor Expo, May 17-18, 2008 (Mike): No new updates.
New Rendezvous site (Joe): No new updates.
Ft. Manuel (Mike): No new updates.
Cabin Fever Party (John T): The club cabin fever party will be March 1st, a Saturday night. It will be held at the Aberdeen Township Hall, north of the South Sale Barn. It will again be a pot-luck, with lots of prizes. The hall is reserved. Someone needs to bring coffee. MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
Sweetwater 2008: The mugs have been ordered. They hope to be done by January. We will pre-sell mugs so people can use them throughout the rendezvous season, which will help promote Sweetwater. If all mugs are sold prior to the rendezvous, we may order more (depending on demand). The mugs will be white with blue striping, crossed hawk/gun, 30oz capacity! Mike will e-mail the order to Dakota Stoneware and we will arrange pickup between Pete & Joe when they are ready.
Club Public Relations:
College Activities (Zach): Zach will contact PC/NSU History departments. Zach also discussed working with the school system to host an event similar to Albert Lea. There was lots of discussion of club participation and assistance in this event. Zach will work on this offline as it would be a couple years in development.
Aberdeen Area Arts Council/ARCC (open): No one is currently pursuing.
Club info listings - GF&P/Abdn Am News (Joe): Having trouble making contact with the Aberdeen American News, no responses. GF&P has some potential, they at least express some interest. Joe will continue to work with them. They may even attend a shoot for the experience?
Club Patches/Flags (Mike): No opportunity to pursue this yet. John T volunteered to pursue this. Sanders Sew & Vac may be a potential contact, as they might know who locally can do this type of work.
Other Old Business:
Beaver Club Award - it has been a long time since anyone was recognized. The award was explained to members unfamiliar with the details. Beaver Club members (in recognition order) are: George Bartell, Donnie Bachman (d.), Elwin Hite (d.), John Thelen, Pete Mattson, Jim Diestel and John Graves. Award is determined by BC members only, so surviving members will discuss privately.

New Business:
November Shoot: November shoot will be held on November 18th, where aggregate shoot will be made up.
2008 Spring canoe journey: We are considering the second weekend of May. How many people can participate on this date? Set this date until closer to spring, once schedules are more clearly defined.
2008 Publicity opportunities: If anyone hears of upcoming local events, such as 125th celebrations, where the club could make public appearances, please notify the club via e-mail or at club meetings. Membership was at its height when we were participating in these events across the region.
Range clean-up weekend: No date defined yet. It will have to be done prior to May.
Upcoming Rendezvous'/Events: No new updates.
Other New Business:
New trees for range (Joe): We have lost a significant number of trees over the last few years. We need to introduce new growth (especially on the east end) if we want to keep shade on the range site. Joe has cottonwood and possibly cedar that we could transplant next spring. It would be a relatively easy process. It was agreed to coordinate planting some of these at the range during the April shoot weekend.
Target stands (Joe/John T): Joe will bring the stands from Sweetwater to the range on his next trip over. Once Joe gets some additional hubs built, John T will build the uprights to put up the additional stands.
Spring Rendezvous: Several members have thought about hosting a spring rendezvous. Since the site near Sica Hollow is unavailable at this time, why not host one at the Range. It would be a small, primitive, "bare-bones" rendezvous to start. This weekend for consideration is Memorial Day weekend, which would allow for two full days of activities (Saturday & Sunday) with setup anytime before Saturday and teardown on Monday. John T would like to call it "Drifting Goose" after the local indian leader of the late 1800's. All agreed to host the event. Next meeting we need to determine flyer design, camp tokens, etc. Currently, the plan is to award 1st place for each event only. That may change if an acceptable number of prizes are donated, as the goal of this first year will be to get the ball rolling.

Other Business: None.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:40 pm.

October 2007

Meeting called to order at 8:12 pm, 10/1/07 by President John Thelen. 7 members present.

Secretary's Report: The minutes of the last meeting were approved as read. Website has 2366 hits, good traffic through September.

Treasurer's Report: We had $1396.49 in our account prior to the meeting. Sweetwater cleared $265.26 and the Chinese auction brought in $53.00 (good considering the turnout).

Range Officer's Report: Scalps will be kept at the range so they can be given out at the shoots.

Old Business:
Building update: No new updates.
SD Outdoor Expo, May 17-18, 2008: No new updates.
Joe's Rendezvous site: No new updates.
Ft. Manuel: No new updates.
Sweetwater 2007: Sweetwater cleared well, considering the turnout. There were 14 (?) paid camps, down due to weather and family issues (Thane Wells is now a Grandpa!) We need to bring the target stands and clay pigeons to the range so they can be used. The pigeons will not last to next year. Several items were brought up for next year: #1 We need to update the flyer to reflect the events being held, i.e. pistol, shotgun, smoothbore shoots, so people know what to bring. #2 Can/should we allocate money for prizes, as local donations are not always reflective of the pre-1840 period? We traditionally spend $100-$175 on meat prizes... #3 We need to coordinate events better next year, as most rifle shoots were Friday before people were set up and most custom (pistol, shotgun, archery, etc) events were Saturday when most people were on-site.
Other Old Business: None.

New Business:
October Shoot: October shoot will be cancelled due to being opening weekend of Pheasant season. There is too much risk with public hunting lands within shooting distance. November shoot will be held on November 18th, where aggregate shoot will be made up.
Sweetwater 2008: We have traditionally held Sweetwater on the 2nd weekend after Labor Day. Next year, that will be September 12-14. MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Next year's mug will be: tall, tapered slightly from bottom to top(not pot-bellied), 30oz capacity, rifle and tomahawk crossed design, brown with a green stripe around the rim, with a full handle (top to bottom) for an entire fist and thumb knob. Pete will deliver request to Dakota Stoneware as soon as possible so we can try to get samples. We will plan on ordering 40 mugs.
Cabin Fever Party: The club cabin fever party will be March 1st, a Saturday night. It will be held at the Aberdeen Township Hall, south of the South Sale Barn. It will again be a pot-luck, with lots of prizes. John T will work with Jim D to get the hall reserved. MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
Club Public Relations: Discussion centered around ideas to increase club awareness in our community. The idea of a Spring Public Rendezvous was deemed ineffective, as well as a concern with involving local high schools due to the risk of the range being used for the wrong intent at later dates. There was interest in working with the college history departments again. Zach W will work on NSU and PC to see what we can set up. We have hosted History classes at the range before with success. The Aberdeen Area Arts Council and ARCC are other options to pursue. If someone is willing, those are two contact points that could be made. The Aberdeen American News might be a resource again, with the recent article about Zach. The Game, Fish and Parks may also be an option. Joe C agreed to work on both of those resources to at least get our monthly meetings and shoots announced.
Club Patches/Flags/Mugs: Is there interest in club "swag" to help get the club more visibility? Mike T received bids on flags, but a full-sized flag would cost a minimum of $125.00 and small flags for individual lodges would be $7.00 each - with a minimum order of 50. Those options are too expensive to pursue at this time. Mugs were not desirable, as everyone already has so many mugs. Patches are a good idea. Pete M had a few left over from our last run, approximately 20 years ago. Mike T took one as a sample to see how much they would cost for a new order.
Club Canoe Trip: Years ago, the club took a canoe trip on one of the local rivers every spring. It was usually a one-day trip, but could be an overnight trip. Is there interest? At least 6 people would participate, possibly more. There is no time to have one this fall, so we need to pick a date for one next spring. Keep on the agenda.

Joe's Rendezvous site: No new updates.
Sweetwater 2007: Mardell is getting the eggs from an individual. John G will bring a large fry pan for the eggs. Mike and John picked up a fire grate at an auction that will stay at Sweetwater. The grate is large enough to cook everything for the breakfast. Pete has pancake mix and will get sausage (as well as food prizes) this week from Frohling's. It was asked that we get a variety of prizes from them, not just meat and cheese. We should only need to purchase about 12 prizes, as Mardell, Gayland, John G and Mike have acquired a number of donated prizes. Door Flap/Drawing will have a number of items also, including a rocking chair from Helen and Moosie Angrimson, Trade Silver from Rooster (Mark Roster), and a Tomahawk from Joe DeLaRonde. Mike noted that these people all responded when he put out the need for a door-flap prize. The bowls look good. We have 40 and will sell them for $8.00 each on-site. Ralph will bring the water wagon over Wednesday night. He will fill it with Web Water, as the water last year seemed a little rust-colored. We will have new target stands for the 20yd and 40yd targets. Those will be taken over to the range after the rendezvous. Gayland will bring additional targets for archery and Joe will bring a post-pounder to build the archery range. Pete will pick up clay pigeons for the shotgun shoot.
For a more detailed schedule, see the Sweetwater Rendezvous page.

Other old business: None.

New Business:
Ft. Manuel: Keith H mentioned Ft. Manuel at the August shoot. It is located near Kennel, SD along the Missouri River. The Standing Rock tribe has rebuilt/restored the fort and he questioned if there was a rendezvous there? Mike would like to check with the tribe to see if they would be interested in hosting a rendezvous at the site. It could raise awareness as well as revenue to help restore the fort.
Upcoming rendezvous: Big Island is the first weekend of October.
Other new business: Cabin Fever Party: We need to place this on the October agenda and start working on details.

Other Business:
Zach is looking for .45cal supplies for his newest toy!

Treasurer's Report: We had $1074.42 in our account prior to the meeting. Several bills have been submitted and dues paid. Pete will pick up Sweetwater bowls from Huebner's. Do we want to continue PHN subscription? They do donate subscriptions for prizes and list our event, so YES, continue subscription. Rosie (Steve Rosendahl) is back in the hospital.

Range Officer's Report: John G was not in attendance. July shoot had 13 shooters. We picked up some dues at that time. Will need to provide winners to Pete for scalps.

Old Business:
Building update: Nilsson's think the hired-hand should be able to get the building cleared out this month. It may be ready to move late August or early September.
SD Outdoor Expo, May 17-18, 2008: No new updates.
Joe's Rendezvous site: Joe talked to Canyon Ranch briefly. There is potential. He plans on attending a trail ride there this weekend where he will talk more with them.
Sweetwater 2007: Final Clean-up weekend will be August 25. We need to mow, build steps for a hooter, set up the range (Joe's making new target stands), and possibly move more firewood. Joe, John and Mike will bring mowers. Joe has wood for the hooter step. Bring saws for firewood. Breakfast details - Mardell will buy eggs, Pete will buy pancakes, Joe will get sausage from Frohlings. Pete needs the number of prizes donated at next meeting so we can determine how many food prizes to buy from Frohlings. Mardell suggested we buy more than just meat, Frohlings has jams, salsas, etc. Mardell may check on Buffalo meat prizes also. Joe provided some possible contacts. Helen and Moosie Angrimson have donated a rocking chair for door flap prize. Rooster (Mark Roster) will be providing something also. Door flap should be covered. For a more detailed schedule, see the Sweetwater Rendezvous page.
Other old business: None.

Several people were interested in breakfast. We will meet around 9:00 am for breakfast - any who are interested are welcome.
NRA Youth Sportsfest: The BCSC should be meeting Tuesday night (tomorrow) to set the agenda. We need to know what time to show up. The event is September 8th - before our next meeting. We should be there around 7:30 am to set up. Reminder - this is IN DRESS. It would be best to have 6-8 people. Last year, 4 people were kept pretty busy. Lunch is provided by the BCSC, as are all the shooting supplies for .50cal. Rifles available: John, Mike (2), Richard possibly, John G (?), any others?
Upcoming rendezvous: Missouri River Muzzleloaders have their annual rendezvous September 7-9 at Ft. Mandan, near Washburn, ND. Jerry Painter is having an auction in Florence on August 18th. He's selling all his personal property and his Rendezvous stuff.

SD Outdoor Expo, May 17-18, 2008: No new updates.
Warner 125th: Was a success. We shot in the parade, had some kids do demonstration shooting and archery.
Frederick 125th: Another success. Many people participated in the demonstration shooting and hawk throw. The park and city staff were very nice. Shooting in the parade went very well. The club was contacted by Jeff Roste, the publisher of an outdoor magazine while at the park. He shot, threw hawk and would like to attend Sweetwater to take pictures and write an article for the magazine on Rendezvous. Mike read a letter sent from Jeff earlier Monday.
Joe's Rendezvous site: No new updates. Joe hopes to talk to Canyon Ranch this week.
Building update: No new updates.
Donnie's Day: Club Shoot weekend in July (14th & 15th) at the club range. Running buffalo is back and can be set up. BYO, bring enough to share if you feel generous. Saturday will be a relaxed gathering. Plan on arriving around 11:00am. Several plan to camp overnight for Sunday's shoot.

June 2007

Meeting called to order at 8:12 pm, 6/4/07 by President John Thelen. 8 members/guests present.

Secretary's Report: The minutes of the last meeting were approved as read. Website has 1480 hits with 60+ other sites linking to us. PHN had Sweetwater article in the last edition.

Treasurer's Report: We have $1019.20 in our account. Secretary of State has been paid.

Old Business:
SD Outdoor Expo: The dates are May 17-18, 2008. Mike provided a draft outline of events desired. Randy Gaskins and Alison Kiesz are leading the project. They hope to bring in some big names and are seeking sponsorship arrangements with various businesses (Sportsman's Warehouse and others). We are on the communication list now to keep us up to date. Sounds like there will be opportunity to set up and demonstrate, that they want it to be a hands-on event. It does not sound like another "boat show".
Donnie's Day: Club Shoot weekend in July (14th & 15th) at the club range. Running buffalo is back and can be set up.
Club clean-up weekend: Hauled out 11 loads of stuff (mostly rotted wood), moved the old building, moved the outhouse out-of-sight and put in a 2nd. A lot of area was cleared, still a few old piles of wood that need to be handled. Lance Fuhrman believes the township will lay gravel and grade the north/south road. Joe advised we may have a new hawk block available.
Warner 125th: Zach said he will be there (after missing the BCSC picnic). Joe could have bales brought in for archery. Is a hawk block available? Mike will get a final schedule from Sharon and e-mail to those who have e-mail. We plan to attach business cards to old camp tokens and give those out during the parade. They would like to shoot the candy cannon multiple times. We will be shooting in the parade and demonstration shooting. Mike will bring FFg powder for use in the parade. Do we have wood for fires? If not, we'll bring some from the range (only 4 miles away).
Sportsman's Club of Brown County picnic: Rain, rain, rain! Only had 3 shooters, but their club had a low turnout due to the weather. Some flyers/info sheets were taken. It was still the right thing to do to gain publicity for the muzzleloaders.
Joe's Rendezvous site: Actually, Canyon Ranch may be a great site, just down from Joe's place (Joe has organic land, no spraying for bugs). Zach asked if it would be a possible site for 2015 HPRR? Joe's = no, but Canyon Ranch = yes. Joe's could be used for the overnight trek. Canyon Ranch has horse rides, that could be a possibility. It also already has some hooters and campsite work done. Joe will talk to the owners and be prepared to report back at next meeting.
Building update: New building was not ready to move. Nilsson's will work with us once they get it emptied, so we will have time to move. Stay tuned!
Other old business: Storybook Land is no longer doing the Youth Heritage Festival. It is now focused on literacy/reading. No longer an event the club would participate in.
The Brown County Fair was discussed, but the last few times the club set up there, the "environment" wasn't beneficial to the club. There was no interest in that event at this time.

New Business:
125th Celebrations: There are a number of celebrations within 100 miles of Aberdeen. Mansfield has theirs on the same weekend as Warner. Ralph will be going through the Mansfield parade at 1:00pm with the water wagon. Others are welcome to walk that also (Warner's is at 11:00am). Northville has theirs on the following weekend. Ralph may already be doing that one also? The only other event that had club interest is Frederick, July 6-8. They have built a sod house that they plan to use as a museum after the celebration. Several club members are interested, so we will participate if they are able to let us camp/shoot in the parade.
Monthly shoot winners: Club tradition is to provide winners of shoots (1st and 2nd) with "scalps" for challenge events. We have continued this, but somewhat randomly. As Range Officer, John Graves will be in charge of reporting shoot winners at meetings following the shoots so Pete can award scalps.
Upcoming rendezvous: Browntown, MN has a 150th celebration with free camping. Contact Elmer or Marcy Baysinger. Gayland has information at home on a new rendezvous 30 minutes north of Sioux Falls. He will share contact information.
Sweetwater 2007: Need dates for a Sweetwater Clean-up/Site prep at the next meeting. Also need to start laying out plans for events/people/etc. NEED TO ORDER MUGS/BOWLS. This should have been done in February. We will go with a large bowl with loop, light tan with a green rim, with a skunk (lots of club history on that) as the logo. Will order 40 and price to sell. We need to have Saturday breakfast needs identified as soon as possible.
Other new business: Prizes - we have some additional from Track of the Wolf and Hornady. John Graves will hold all prizes for Sweetwater/Cabin Fever as he already has some.
The following meeting dates will not be on the first Monday of the month: July (moved to July 9th) and September (moved to 10th). Both are needed to prepare for Sweetwater.

Other Business:
Sodak is no longer carrying Black Powder. They will continue with Pyrodex.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:55 pm.

Secretary's Report: The minutes of the last meeting were approved as read

Treasurer's Report: We have $979.81 in our account. Insurance of $347.61 has been paid. One bill outstanding to the Secretary of State.

Old Business:
Website/Publicity: Website - 1339 hits, traffic from many other sites. Still need past photos. Sweetwater article should be in the next PHN, there was a mix-up and they had believed the pictures were from a different rendezvous.
Donnie's Day: Club Shoot weekend in July (14th & 15th)? Could be held at the range, which would get people to the range also. All liked this potential date/location. Lets set the Running Buffalo up for this weekend. John T will bring it back from 4-Moons as well as two outhouses. Need dates for a Sweetwater Clean-up/Site prep at the next meeting.
Club clean-up weekend: Should go as scheduled. The range is accessible from the south, but you may have to walk in if it is still wet.
Warner 125th: We will need to get a rider on the insurance. We have the green light to do demonstration shooting.
Sportsman's Club of Brown County picnic: They would like us to start at 5:30pm. Reminders: attend in period attire; John, Mike, Joe, Zack and Kyle all volunteered. John T will check with Dan Opp as well, as he does good demonstrations/presentations.
Membership: Nick H moved from Webster to Bristol. His new address was provided to the club officers.

New Business:
Club Elections: Nominations were made and seconded for the following: PRESIDENT, John Thelen; VICE PRESIDENT, Joe Carda; SECRETARY, Mike Thelen; TREASURER, Pete Mattson. Motion made and seconded to cease nominations. Vote was taken with all in favor. Nominations made and seconded for the following Board of Directors positions: Richard Underwood, 3-year term; Ed Hofer, 1-year term. Motion made and seconded to cease nominations. Vote was taken with all in favor.
We have a BUILDING!: We have a building, a 12x18 grainary donated by Nilsson Farms. Donald Hahler has a 13x20 stackmover that we can use, but he wants to be present. We need to move this building ASAP! We will navigate the phone tree on Friday to let club members know if the range is accessible THIS WEEKEND. John and Mike will check the roads and start the phone tree. The goal will be to move the current building, clear the area, and prep this weekend. At the club clean-up weekend, we'll attempt to move the other building over.
SD Outdoor Expo: The Muzzleloaders of the Black Hills have been contacted by the Governor's Office about involvement in the 1st annual SD Outdoor Expo in Huron, SD. The dates are May 17-18, 2008 so we have 1 year to prepare. They are looking for assistance from all SD clubs with skill demonstrations (fire-starting, tomahawk and knife, shooting, etc). Ranges will be available. Are we interested in participating? All agreed at this time we are absolutely interested in being involved. The club, as well as the sport, need this opportunity for exposure. Mike will let the MotBL know we plan on assisting.

April 2007

Meeting called to order at 8:08 pm, 4/2/07 by President John Graves. 10 members/guests present.

Secretary's Report: The minutes of the last meeting were approved as read

Treasurer's Report: We have $1327.42 in our account. Cabin Fever Party cleared $203.61.

Old Business:
Website/Publicity: Website - 1131 hits, traffic from many other sites. We would really like to add some past photos! Will need to see if Sweetwater is in next PHN. For those going to Ft. Sisseton, please take along club literature/SW flyer/business card for club exposure. All will be provided at the next club meeting.
Donnie's Day: July date isn't good, too many conflicts. What about Club Shoot weekend in July (14th & 15th)? Could be held at the range, which would get people to the range also. All liked this potential date/location. Lets set the Running Buffalo up for this weekend. John T will bring it back from 4-Moons in April. We will have to review dates for a Sweetwater Clean-up/Site prep at the next meeting.
Club clean-up weekend: Clean-up weekend will be scheduled for the weekend of the May shoot. We need to know if any scout troups will help. The goal is to get the south strip of range cleared to do add "longhunter" or primitive-type range targets. There's lots of branches that need to be cleared and area to be mowed. We need a big turnout of members to get things completed.
Warner 125th: Parade route is pretty short. We will still want a vehicle/trailer for those who can't walk. It is believed we will camp south of the school, near the soccer fields. No word on demonstration shooting yet.
Sportsman's Club of Brown County picnic: We will be able to use Sportsfest supplies. The picnic is Thursday night, May 31st, approximately 5:00pm. 50 caliber rifles with two types of loads - target loads vs. hunting loads. We will attend in period attire. John, Mike, Joe, Zack, Kyle all volunteered. Richard and Gayland have rifles we can borrow, we should have 5-6 50 cal's on-hand. Will check with Dan Opp as well, as he does good demonstrations/presentations.

New Business:
Club Elections: Elections are next month at the club meeting. Really need to have members present for this. Bring your nominations. We will send out a newsletter to remind members of the election.
Membership: Nick H moved from Webster to Bristol. We need his new address for newsletters/etc. Wayne Dvorak hopes to renew his membership, things are slowing down enough where he may be able to become re-involved in rendezvousing. We'll keep him on the e-mail list for newsletters. There is a new resident in Bristol from Michigan. He has some interest in Black Powder. Joe has his name and will contact him.
New Rendezvous?: Joe has land near Sica Hollow. He would love to see a rendezvous on his land. It is located within 3 miles of the state park, 20 miles from Ft. Sisseton. Lots of Oak. It could be a good site for a second club rendezvous. There was lots of discussion about possible dates, help from other rendezvousers/clubs, etc. Joe's land is all organic, so spraying would not be an option. Depending on land/ticks, it may be a possible early June or late July event. Everyone agreed it would be nice to have another event close enough to Aberdeen to attend, rather than 200-300 miles away. There's lot of history on or near his land as an added attraction. We will take a look at the land later this spring and discuss the potential for an early-year rendezvous possibly as soon as 2008.

Old Business:
Cabin Fever Party: The party needs to be rescheduled due to weather. Check on March 24th or April 28th at the Aberdeen Township Hall, south of town by the stockyards. BYO and a dish to pass - it is a potluck.
Donnie's Day: July 28th and 29th at Sweetwater. The 28th will be a celebration day, the 29th will be site prep day for Sweetwater Rendezvous. It will not be a primitive weekend.
Website/Publicity: 942 hits, traffic from many other sites. Sweetwater '07 date in PHN, but no article on '06 (again). Mike will contact PHN and see about getting our article in.
Club clean-up weekend: Clean-up weekend will be scheduled for the weekend of the May shoot. John T and Joe C will check with local Boy Scout troups to see if there is an opportunity to get help and help them earn a merit badge. Joe has some scrap lumber if we wanted to begin building a shelter. He has enough for 1 or 2 sides.
Warner 125th: We need to know the parade route, where to camp, and if we are shooting. The date is approaching. Mike will check into this with Sharon Stroschein.

New Business:
Club Insurance: No alcohol before or during shooting. Insurance rules are getting tougher. Club constitution already requires this, it just may need be watched closer, especially at Sweetwater.
Sportsman's Club of Brown County picnic: The SCBC would like us to come to their annual picnic, give a demo, and open shooting (like the NRA Youth Sportsfest). The date is May 31st. This would be a great audience and membership opportunity for our club. We need a few more details: what time, will they provide shooting supplies? Mike will check with Rieck Eske, their point of contact.

Old Business:
Sweetwater: George and Alice have the Medallions and the list of campers. They will get the medallions delivered. The Powder Horn News should have the Sweetwater article in the March issue.
Cabin Fever Party: Reminder, the party is scheduled for March 3rd at the Aberdeen Township Hall, south of town by the stockyards. There will be prizes and auctions. If you have something you no longer want or need, bring it for the auction. BYO and a dish to pass - it is a potluck.
Donnie's Day: John G will check schedules and bring a potential date to the March meeting. It may be beneficial to schedule it on the shoot weekend?
Club Aggregate Shoot: Had 6 shooters in January. Mike will track who's paid and has a list of rules in the clubhouse at the range and online. We have a Priming Horn from Thane Wells, a priming antler from Ash Creek Traders, a subscription to Smoke&Fire news, and other prizes donated for the aggregate.
Club clean-up weekend: Clean-up weekend will be scheduled for the weekend of the May shoot. We have lots of wood to cut and stack, as well as some general clean-up and a goal of mowing all the site this year. We may have building work if we can locate an additional building for the range. Also, there will likely be new hooters that will need to be installed (4-Moons has several we can have if we get them out of their site). Bring saws!

New Business:

Shoot Scalps: We are very low. Jim D. has some scrap leather. Thelen's have the stamp. More need to be made asap. We may have to use one color and hand out "x" for 1st, "x" for second, etc as it is difficult to find gold and silver colored leather.
Club Website: Website has 688 hits, a very good start. We are linked through many other sites, some very prominent. We will be adding a Classified Ads section.

Cabin Fever Party: Scheduled for March 3rd. We'll have (need) small prizes, meat prizes and a silent auction. Bring your own and a dish to pass.

New Business:

December 2006

Meeting called to order 12/4/06 by President John Graves

Secretary's Report: The minutes of the last meeting were approved as read

Treasurer's Report: We have $1085.41 in our account. Pete cleared up a point that was asked in reference to income from Sweetwater. The event cleared $280.00 plus $51.00 from the silent auction. The insurance is to be paid at a later date and we have adequate funds for the coming year as dues will be coming due in June ‘07. Report was approved as given.

Old Business:
Oz Festival: The dates of the Oz fest are June 9-10 so we have a conflict with the Warner Q-centennial. The Warner committee contacted us first so we will make the effort to participate there. We will be in contact with Oz fest in hopes of participating in 2008. The contact person is Stacey Hepola.
Warner 125th: Warner advised that their parade is in the afternoon, as they are cooperating with Mansfield’s Q. Mansfield has their parade in the morning. They agreed to let us shoot in the parade and will arrange a camping site for us. Warner 125th is June 8-10, 2007.
Newsletter: John and Mike are still trying to get an updated address list with possible e-mail addresses. November newsletter was sent. John will again send out a hard-copy newsletter before the January meeting to club members and potential members. It would be nice to send the newsletter by e-mail wherever possible after the December newsletter to save postage/paper.

New Business:
Cabin Fever Party: Jim D volunteered to contact the Township hall to arrange a solid date for the cabin fever party. When he finds a clear day that will be the date we pick for our party.
Oz Festival 2008: We will be in contact with Oz fest in hopes of participating in 2008. The contact person is Stacey Hepola. Mike will contact and attempt to determine '08 dates/desire for our participation.

October 2006

Meeting called to order 10/2/06 by President John Graves

Secretary's Report: The minutes of the last meeting were approved as read

Treasurer's Report: $1027.41 in the bank. Insurance (largest expense) has yet to be paid. Sweetwater Rendezvous was a financial success, netting a profit of just over $200.00.

Old Business:
NRA Youth Shooting Sports Camp - Sportsman's Club: We discussed the need to "dress the part" for the Youth Sports Camp in 2007. Desicion was made to dress, as it would be to our advantage. All DTML participants will be asked to dress pre-1840 to bring more realism to the demonstration.
Warner 125th: Mike T. has contacted the Warner Centennial committee and is clarifying the need for parade loads in the parade, as well as the possibility of setting up a primitive camp for the celebration. The WCC subcommittee was approaching the overall assembly with our request. Warner 125th is June 8-10, 2007.

New Business:
Sweetwater: Sweetwater '07 plans were discussed and we have tentatively dropped the chili feed in favor of coffee and cookies on Friday evening. We will continue the Saturday morning free breakfast as it has worked well in the past.

September 2006

Meeting called to order at 7:35pm on 9/5/06 by President John Graves

Treasurer's Report: $461.76, mugs are paid for (30).

Old Business:
Sweetwater: Have 2 dutch ovens donated by John/Mike T. for door flap. Sausage is ordered, will get butter, and will work with Alice B. to purchase eggs for camp breakfast. George B. family is taking care of medallions for camp tokens. We will have a post-shoot (interest voiced by several potential campers). Prizes will be taken care of. Mike T. please leave posts from your shoot in place, archery will use the posts. Zack W. will write article for Powder Horn News. Mike T. will send article with pictures. Dacotah W. will run 1 kids' game. Mike T. will bring candy cannon, just in case.
Tax-Exempt Non-Profit Status: Fee has raised to $300.00 + we may not qualify. Best option is Educational, of which the club may not do enough educational work to qualify. Decision made to remain a Social Non-Profit and not pursue tax-exempt status.
NRA Youth Shooting Sports Camp - Sportsman's Club: Saturday, 9/9/06, be there around 7:00am. Dan Opp will bring supplies (provided by Sports Camp) for 50cal. rifles. Should we dress? No decision.

New Business:
Recruitment: How do we recruit new members? Centennials and Storybookland were what built the club. 125th Celebrations, Storybookland, Youth Sports, newspaper press, coordinated activities with Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts/History classes are all possibilities, but need current club members to be active. The events become too much for the same 4-5 people.
Warner 125th: Mike T. will contact Sharon Stroschein and express possible interest if club can set up for weekend, can shoot Parade Loads in Parade, and possibly demonstrate shoots/hawk/archery at campsite. Warner 125th is June 8-10, 2007.
October Shoot: Decision was made to have an October shoot since Pheasant season opens after the 3rd Sunday and the club hasn't had many shoots this year. Many improvements have been made to the range, it is in prime shape.

Other Business:
Zack is looking for an anvil if anyone knows of one not being used.

Meeting adjourned at 9:05pm.
